The University of Mindanao (UM) once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence after surpassing the national passing rate in the May 2026 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE), based on the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). UM produced 34 new Certified Public Accountants out of 68 examinees, posting an overall passing rate of 50.00%, significantly higher than the national passing rate of 30.83%. Among first-time takers, 31 out of 47 examinees successfully passed the examination, translating to an impressive 65.96% passing rate. This performance placed University of Mindanaoโ€“Davao City seventh nationwide among schools with 50 or more examinees, according to the CPALE performance summary. According to Dean Lord Eddie Aguilar of the College of Accounting Education, UM consistently outperformed the national passing rate among first-time takers from September 2023 to May 2026, recording an average passing rate of 62.81% compared to the national average of 31.99%. He added that the sustained performance demonstrates the effectiveness of the Collegeโ€™s academic instruction, outcomes-based education initiatives, review interventions, and continuous curriculum enhancement, while highlighting the programโ€™s success in developing graduates who possess the technical competence, critical thinking skills, ethical foundations, and professional readiness expected of accounting professionals. In a message to those who were unable to pass the May 2026 CPALE, Jade Solaรฑa, CPA, MBA, encouraged examinees to view the setback as part of their professional journey rather than the end of their aspirations. He emphasized that taking the examination already reflects courage, perseverance, and dedication, urging them to learn from the experience, trust the process, and continue pursuing their goal of becoming Certified Public Accountants. โ€œYour story is not over, and your time will come,โ€ he said. As the newest batch of UM-certified public accountants marks another milestone for the University, reflecting its continued commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The result highlights the institutionโ€™s strengthened academic instruction, industry readiness initiatives, and collaborative efforts that uphold discipline, resilience, and lifelong learning. โœ๏ธ Jaypee Madendog ๐Ÿ’ป Candice Garcia
