After a successful first run, the Monthly Accounting Quiz Cup (MAQC) returned for Series 2 on April 8, 2026, bringing another exciting round of academic competition for accounting students. Organized by the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) Academics Committee headed by Ms. Samantha U. Cruz, the event gathered students from different year levels of the College of Accounting Education to test their knowledge, critical thinking, and problem - solving skills in accounting. The series recognized outstanding students from each year level. For the first-year level, Mike Andre Amper emerged as the champion, followed by Joseph Niรฑo Estrella as 1st Runner - Up and Princess Bea Omicas as 2nd Runner - Up. In the second-year level, Herbie Miles Alejan secured the championship title, with Frenz Ballesteros as the 1st Runner - Up. Meanwhile, in the third-year level, Eann Johna Betonio claimed the championship, followed by Mary Ann Gales as 1st Runner - Up and Zealand Resuera as 2nd Runner - Up. For the first-year level, the questions covered ACC 124 (Conceptual Framework and Intermediate Accounting 1), ACC 123 (Cost Accounting and Control), and BE 313 (Managerial Economis), while the second-year participants tackled ACC 221 (Intermediate Accounting 3), ACC 222 (Financial Management), ACC 223 (Strategic Business Analysis), and ACC 225 (Business Laws and Regulations). Meanwhile, the third-year level focused on Regulatory Framework for Business Transactions (RFBT). These subjects challenged participants to apply their knowledge and critical thinking in answering accounting problems within a limited time. According to Ms. Cruz, the structure of the competition remained consistent, but Series 2 featured improvements in presentation, mechanics, and participant engagement based on feedback gathered from the previous MAQC. The event also successfully met its target number of participants, with students showing enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the activity. First-year champion Mike Andre Amper shared that he prepared for the competition by reviewing past lessons, answering book problems and test banks, and practicing with a timer to simulate the pressure of the quiz. โPreparation and time management are very important in performing well in competitions like this,โ he said, adding that staying focused and composed helped him overcome the challenge of solving complex word problems with a limited time. Herbie Miles Alejan described the experience as both enjoyable and meaningful. He shared that events like MAQC help students gain and retain knowledge from their lessons while also recognizing the importance of taking opportunities to challenge themselves academically. This activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which promotes learning opportunities that help students strengthen their knowledge as future Certified Public Accountants.
