𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 l 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲

On March 7, 2026, the College of Accounting Education at the University of Mindanao gave its incoming interns a valuable skill boost through a full-day Microsoft Excel Refresher Workshop held at the MNA Computing Laboratory in the FEA Building, Matina campus. A total of 112 soon-to-be interns participated, divided into two groups of 56 each to ensure a smooth learning experience. The morning session ran from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by the afternoon group from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The workshop focused on refreshing and strengthening the Excel skills the interns had previously studied for their certification exam—ensuring they’re truly prepared to apply them in real workplace scenarios. The training emphasized practical, time-saving techniques for managing data efficiently, producing cleaner outputs, and reducing stress when handling actual ledgers, financial reports, and client records during their upcoming internships. One attendee, Miss Pitch Decayco, shared what clicked most for her: “For me, it’s definitely VLOOKUP, the IF function, and PivotTables. These features make it so much easier to quickly pull data, perform analysis, and summarize big sets of information—skills that are essential when preparing financial reports and working with large datasets.” By the end of the day, the atmosphere in the room had noticeably shifted. Interns walked away feeling more confident in their ability to tackle everyday accounting tasks: extracting figures for financial statements, monitoring receivables, creating fast summaries for supervisors, and staying on top of heavy data workloads. The initiative quietly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, delivering focused, practical training that connects academic learning with real-world professional demands—helping develop a new generation of competent, job-ready accountants. By equipping participants with hands-on experience in Microsoft Excel, the workshop strengthened their ability to analyze data, generate accurate financial reports, and adapt to the evolving demands of the workplace.
